REVIEW: Unsilence - A Walk Through Oceans Golden Lake Productions, 2002
6.5/10
Unsilence - A Walk Through Oceans - cover art The British isles are as you probably know the original home of doom metal. Bands like Black Sabbath and later on Cathedral, Anathema, Paradise Lost and others have made their way to international success. Unsilence is yet another British doom metal band who have been active since 1993 but because of label problems they have not had one single official release until now that the Scottish Golden Lake Productions have decided to sign the band. This is a mini album since it only contains four songs but it is still as much music as many full-length releases, nothing astonishing for a doom metal album. Slow, melancholic and heavy tunes are what we are offered here, nothing that makes my tongue stick out of my mouth but nothing that makes me want to use the disc as a frisbee either (especially not now that I have cut myself...). The music isn't that impressing but it does its job of being atmospheric and emotional pretty well. What I like most about Unsilence is the male vocalist. He isn't exactly the best doom metal vocalist I've heard but his dark clean voice blends in with the music very nicely. A good album that works very well as background music but not really something I will remember with great passion in a month.
