REVIEW: VII Gates - Fire, Walk With Me Sound Riot Records, 2003
8/10
VII Gates - Fire, Walk With Me - cover art VII Gates (Seven Gates) come from Halmstad, Sweden and was started by guitarist JJ Rockford and now deceased bass player David Agnsviks in 1999. They have at this time released 3 demos and now “Fire, Walk With Me”, their debut album, have seen the light of day. This record starts off wonderfully. It’s heavy metal and I get really happy when I hear it. The guys are talented musicians, teamed up with some very well known guests (Kee Marcello - Europe and Christopher Amott – Arch Enemy to name two) blending together among some great songs with decent production. It is 80’s heavy metal with some elements of 70’s hard rock arrangements and it is great. Pounding drums and galloping guitars, what more can you ask from a heavy metal album? One bad thing though is that the singer sounds very strained while taking the higher notes. Too bad when his voice fits the music perfect otherwise. Sometimes a good metal-choir joins up and makes the music really powerful. I like it; I get very happy when I hear this cheery music. This album I think would fit any Dio-fan around but this kind of music ought to be experienced live! Hopefully I will get to see them someday because I think that VII Gates' heavy metal is close to perfect (nothing is ever perfect in my world) for partying.
