REVIEW: VLE - Book Of Illusions: Chapter I Self-financed, 2001
6/10
VLE - Book Of Illusions: Chapter I - cover art VLE is a one-man project that was created in order to express the inner feelings and emotions of one person. Inspired by ocean sunsets, darkness and silence he is making experimental and completely improvisational music that captures the atmosphere and mood of the moment. The production is rather simple and the sound quality far from perfect but that is not what is important here. What is important with this album is the atmosphere and the feelings evoked through the music. Light, darkness, passion, pain, beauty, melancholy, power... The list goes on and on and this is what VLE is all about. The purpose of the music is to make people feel and to capture the human nature in its purest form. The music could be labelled something like atmospheric metal with both ambient/noise elements and black metal influences but there is really not simple way of desribing the VLE sound which is very complex and also slightly chaotic due to the experimental nature of it. Parts of this album is really beautiful like the emotional song "Drift" but the harsh sound takes away some of the listener's pleasure. VLE is interesting though, anything else would be a lie.
