Vader, the pride of Polish
death metal, was formed in 1986 and became the first band from behind the Iron
Curtain to sign with a Western label. After several label changes they finally
signed with Metal Blade in the end of 1998. Their last album "Litany" was
released in March 2000 and sold amazingly well. Vader has all the time been
compared to American death metal giants like Morbid Angel, Deicide and
Cannibal Corpse but they actually have a style of their own. They are
certainly closer to the American sound than the Swedish melodic death metal
but they still have more melodic touches than most American style bands and
their vocals are not as deep-throated but instead some kind of cleaner
growling if there is such a thing. The vocals are in fact one of the many
strengths of Vader. This is a very short album with tracks that haven´t been
released in Europe yet but in return it will be sold on mid-price. Most of the
tracks are creations of the band but there are also cover versions of
Destruction ("Total Desaster"), Judas Priest ("Rapid Fire") and Mayhem
("Freezing Moon"). The production is very good and even the two live tracks
sound pretty good although they are not the best Vader songs so far. If not
for anything else you must buy the album for the Destruction cover, one of the
best death metal songs ever made. The album was produced by Piotr Wiwczarek
and engineered by Piotr Lukaszewski. It was recorded and mixed at Red Studio,
Gdynia, in August 2000, and finally mastered by Bartek Kuzniak at Studio 333,
Czestochowa, in September 2000. The live tracks were recorded at the
Thrash'em All Festival in Olsztyn, August 2000. The tracks "Red Dunes" and
"Lord Of Desert" were first released on the Japan version of their last
album "Litany".
