REVIEW: Vanishing Point - In Thought Dockyard 1, 2006
9/10
Vanishing Point - In Thought - cover art Vanishing Point’s first album ‘In Thought’ had been quite hard to get for a long time. But not anymore. With the re-release of the 1997 debut by this Australian band, anyone can get his hands on the album again. Confusingly the cover claims to have 9 songs on it, but I find 10, and it a completely different order. Anyway, if you haven’t heard of this band before, and you’re into melodic metal, you better get to know them real fast. Proclaimed to be one of the best melodic metal albums all time, I expect to hear quite a lot in this debut re-release. I had never heard the debut before, only their latest one ‘Embrace the Silence’. The first two songs ‘The Only One’ and ‘Forgotten Self’ prelude the album with great melodies, mixed with heavy guitar riffs, and a vocalist who’s got a brilliant voice. The latter argument being the greatest trademark of Vanishing Point in my opinion. The slightly up-tempo ‘Dream Maker’ is one of the most diverse songs on the album, being one of the best compositions. ‘In Though’ is indeed what it was proclaimed to be, with a lot of diversity, ranging from heavy tracks as ‘Dream Maker’ to the prelude ‘Wind’, and the song ‘Blind’, which is also a great track, most valuable to this CD. ‘Company of darkness’ is one of my own favourites, with an interesting intro and a nice main-riff. Concluding I can only say one must get his hands on this records, if he has not already have so. Vanishing Point’s debut is really and introduction to what masterpieces it is to create later on.
