Vehemence follows up their powerful debut album "God was Created" with this little bit of death metal that is close to being plain perfect. That sentence alone could sum up a review for "Helping the World to See," but there is a lot more I'd like to say, in order to put forth the proper praise for this masterful album. While I have always been an avid death metaller, I don't deny that I've been bored recently by most of the new death metal releases, mostly becuase of their lack of inspiration, innovation, and sometimes even a lack of technical precision. However, Vehemence excels where so many others have blatantly failed. HtWtS is armed to the teeth with brutal and original riffage, stylish beats and aggression to boot. There's no denying that they've set off on a slightly different path than where they began with "God was Created", but as far as I'm concerned it's been for the best. There may not be quite as much ambition pushing their newest release, but it's packed with twice as much power in compensation. I've been listening to this album for a few months solid and it hasn't been getting old yet. Whenever I'm in the mood for death or anything closely related, nothing satisfies that bloodthirst better than this album.
I've seen a lot of mixed reviews, people praising it to the heavens and others trashing it for lacking originality. While I admit that perhaps there could be a little more innovation in the song structures, I think that it must be taken with a grain of salt considering the sheer volume of death metal releases as of late. There is a lot of competition here, and I will outright deny anyone who says Vehemence isn't among the forerunners of today's death metal acts. Having evolved since "God Was Created", they are an even greater force to be reckoned with. I can't say it enough that this is an album you all must hear. Even if you're not into death metal, you should give this album a try, because it might just pull you in. The production is pretty solid, and the packaging is nice, including yet another kick-ass cover piece from Wes Benscoter. I hope that I get a chance to see them live at some point, because I'm very interested to see how they come across live. My personal favorite track is "Her Beautiful Eyes" simply because of the heavy as hell riffage. The song structure in that track is not really comparable to the rest of the album, but the riffs sound like the musical representation of a mass murder, and I mean that in a good way. Metalheads rejoice, this is the modern death metal masterpiece we've been waiting for.
