REVIEW: Vermin - Destination Lost Self-financed, 2003
7/10
Vermin - Destination Lost - cover art Vermin is Severin Bathelt, Sacha Kurz, Niko Rukavina and Dieter Pikulski from Germany. Although this Vermin isn't as famous as the metal band you've all certainly heard of, they do have quite some success with their crowds. I happened to accidentally stumble across their album, and after seeing them live I decided to review their CD. The 13 tracks included on the album are a very original combination of sometimes dark-metal, grounge melody, punk attitude and a german vibe to make it all a little more colorful. Although, on some songs, the 'Rammstein' bass-line and the 'Nirvana' feel are a bit obvious, the entire record is mainly a great combination of the diferent styles these guys probably enjoy listening to. The two vocalist set gets weird at times, and the quality of the recording pulls the value of the music down a bit, but there isn't much to complain about concerning the orchestration and the main concept of the Vermin music - wasn't a major flaw I could detect on the entire CD. The atmosphere of this record is very 'downbeat', the lyrics telling more about being 'afraid to die', 'day of defeat', 'can't change anything' and so on. Best songs on the tracklist are 'The Joker', 'Can't Change Anything', 'Afraid To Die', 'Master Above' and 'Day Of Defeat'. Weakest song in my oppinion is 'No Bitch', a very usual punk song with very usual lyrics and no originality or musical skill at all. ...anyway...all in all it's a record worth listening to... they certainly have the potential to become quite famous.
