REVIEW: Vintersorg - Ödemarkens Son Napalm Records, 1999
8.5/10
Vintersorg - Ödemarkens Son - cover art This is an album with Swedish only lyrics but don´t feel bad about not understanding them. In short the texts are about the Swedish nature and old days, especially from the north where Vintersorg originates from. Even if you don´t understand them this album is filled with some very nice music, a mix of black metal, classic heavy metal and Swedish folk tunes. The vocals are alternatively clean and black metal style. Vintersorg has a very powerful deep voice that plays a very important part in his music. Vintersorg is a one-man project as he usually is a member of the Swedish folk metal band Otyg (as well as newly recruited vocalist for the Norwegian band Borknagar). Vintersorg is a very talented musician and plays both guitars and keyboards on this album. As guest musicians you will also hear Vargher on keyboards, Andreas Frank on lead guitar and Cia Hedmark (Otyg) on vocals and violin. "Ödemarkens Son" is a very diverse album with harsh black metal sections as well as emotional acoustic guitars and the beautiful voice of Cia Hedmark. There is one bad thing about this album however. It seems like you grow tired of Vintersorg´s voice and the guitar sound rather quickly. It is not an album to play every day but it is definitely worth buying. It was recorded, mixed and mastered at Ballerina Audio 31st of May and 16th of June 1999.
