REVIEW: Visions Of Atlantis - Cast Away Napalm Records, 2004
5.5/10
Visions Of Atlantis - Cast Away - cover art One of the worst things a band can do is to be a more than obvious copycat. If not being a declared tribute / cover band, which can be fun and a class on its own, any types of copycats are not tolerable for me, because in my opinion it is just fooling the listeners for commercial intentions. Visions of Atlantis (VoA) claims to be a band on its own, but in fact the band presents on "Cast Away" nothing else than a Nightwish copycat. Several moments show skills of song writing and guitars, bass, drums and keyboards may have their highlights, but the unveiled attitude of being Nightwish-alike kills them all at the same moment. There is the one or other nice melody, but nothing that get you really mesmerized and in addition to that, the melodies get slaughtered by a rather weak and average male singer. Nicole Bogner may have talent, but fails in trying to sing and to act like her idol Tarja Turunen. And unfortunately she tries it throughout the whole cd. Now ex-Aesma Daeva singer Melissa Ferlaak has joined the band, after VoA parted ways with Nicole Bogner. To sum up: If I want to hear Nightwish styled songs, I listen to Nightwish, not their copycats.
