REVIEW: Viu Drakh - Death Riff Society Moonstorm Records, 2002
6.5/10
Viu Drakh - Death Riff Society - cover art In the year 2000 the German crust-death metal band Viu Drakh released their album "Take No Prisoners, Grind Them All And Leave This Hell" and now they are back again with their follow-up entitled "Death Riff Society". The new album is pretty much in the same vein as before with aggresive death metal riffs coupled with some Slayer influences and equally aggressive vocals. This time they show improvement as well, most notably the production is a lot better thanks to the work the Swede Berno Paulsson did for them in his studio. The first couple of tracks of this album also display some nice song writing skills of these German guys. Overall this album is more powerful and takes the band one step further in my book. Eventually the songs get a little boring though since they sound too similar too each other but altogether this is a nice album for fans of extreme yet technical and playful metal. They have played together for a while now and this is something you can easily notice when listening to the music on this album. Viu Drakh have also included a nice cover version on Motörhead's legendary "Ace Of Spades". This band is at their best when playing fast and luckily this is what they do for most of these twelve tracks of tight death riffing.
