REVIEW: Void Of Silence - Criteria Ov 666 Code666, 2002
6/10
Void Of Silence - Criteria Ov 666 - cover art Void Of Silence is a band based in Rome, the beautiful capital of Italy, and also the brainchild of Riccardo Conforti who composes most, if not all, of the music. Some of you may know him from bands like Oblivion and Syrion. Up until just a few days ago this band also featured Aborym's Malfeitor Fabban on vocals whose black metal screech can be heard all over this album. This is the first real release from the band and as you may conclude from the song titles they have embarked upon a very ambitious musical journey. Their goal has been to mix the dark harsh edge and heavy churning of black and doom metal with the obscure sounds from industrial, ambient and gothic music. To some extent they have succeeded, well they have actually succeeded because this is a black and very somber mix of those genres. The problem is that it doesn't sound very interesting apart from the more atmospheric passages that can be heard on and off, here and there. Code666 have unearthed some nice music but the debut album from Void Of Silence wasn't ready to meet the world quite yet. If you are into dark ambient music there is a chance you will enjoy this album anyway but it is a little bit too chaotic and lacks consistency to make a lasting impression.
