REVIEW: Voyager - uniVers Dockyard 1, 2007
8.5/10
Voyager - uniVers - cover art When thinking of Australia and progressive metal I spontaneously wouldn't have too many bands in mind. Voyager would be number two in my list now after the already quite established Vanishing Point. And - surprise - they're also labelmates now since Voyager's second album 'UniVers' was also released by the German label Dockyard 1. Already the fact that I never even heard about Voyager's debut album tells me one should pay more attention on bands from Down Under. When talking about progressive metal one cannot avoid going a bit more into detail. Almost every prog band distinguishes itself from other bands. Voyager are no exception. They are no extremely technical band, but incorporate more catchy elements from the power/melodic metal and here and there we also come across death growls/screams. Luckily those are kept in the background and don't appear too often since too much use of death vocals wouldn't fit into the music as a whole. However, in the song "White Shadow" the almost black metal like vocals fit surprisingly well.
