REVIEW: Vreid - Kraft Tabu Recordings, 2004
7.5/10
Vreid - Kraft - cover art When the Windir frontman Valfar (a.k.a. Terje Bakken) tragically passed away in January of 2004, three remaining band members formed a new band called Vreid together with a new guitarist named Ese. Ese had been close to Windir for several years and helped engineer their "Likferd" album. Former Ulcus and Windir bassist Hvàll (aka Jarle Kvåle) has written most of the music for the debut album of Vreid and as a natural result there are elements present here that could be found in the Windir sound. The musical roots are mainly located in the black metal sphere but most of the the epic, folky feeling of Windir has been replaced with a raw, punky rock attitude similar to that of Motörhead. For everyone who enjoys raw and primitive yet groovy metal I would definitely recommend this debut album from Vreid. Aggressive, dark and a good way to come back from the ashes of Windir.
