REVIEW: Vuohivasara - Non-worthless Idols To Worship Self-financed, 2006
7/10
Vuohivasara - Non-worthless Idols To Worship - cover art Finland surprises nicely with good music lately. Besides well established bands now I notice some promising newcomers, one of them being Vuohivasara, or 'Goathammer' in English. Their second release contains four new songs, a video clip for a song from previous material and some pictures of the band. The material is all about old-school Black Metal, in the vein of (oh no, am I going to write that again in a review?) Darkthrone, from the "Ravishing Grimness", or "Sardonic Wrath" phase. “Non-worthless idols to worship” is filled with strong guitar melodies, fast and brutal drums and -my favorite on this release- vocals. Capricorn gave some excellent vocals, cold, brutal, neither too low, nor too high, excellent bestial layer over the music. As for the production, it fits with the music they play, certainly not polished, but neither do they explore the rock bottom end with crappy equipment. Since all recording and production is done by Vuohivasara themselves, it’s not bad, the only complaint is about guitars, higher sounds from them are lost somewhere in the overall buzz. Apart from the music, I liked the band’s attitude. Inside their promo pack is included an instruction on how to achieve salvation in three steps and it goes together with ‘the tool’ sent with the previous demo, which was a razor. All that with a message: ‘Cut if you like, cut if you don’t like…’ - very cool. So, in conclusion, a good effort, and the demo is limited to 100 signed copies only so don’t hesitate if interested.
