REVIEW: W.A.S.P. - Unholy Terror Metal-Is Records, 2001
6/10
W.A.S.P. - Unholy Terror - cover art 14 months on the making and as it is usually the case with W.A.S.P, this thought-provoking album, confronts social, religious, and political hypocrisy. Musically it is of a cross between Headless Children and their previous album. The Unholy Terror line up has been maintained for almost six years now and consists of Blackie Lawless (vocals, guitar), Chris Holmes (lead guitar), Mike Duda (bass), and Stet Howland (drums). Blackie has compared the opening track "Let it Roar" to "I Wanna Be Somebody," and he has also said the second track "Hate to Love Me" could have easily been on the band's first album. Like any artist, he would like to think that his band's latest effort is just as good as anything else they have ever done, but I am not convinced that this is the case here. All the album topics (think for yourself, seek out your own answers, come to your own conclusions, and don't accept prepackaged beliefs or ideals from anybody else) are great, but the music, doesn't sound too fresh to me. It is good, it is (classic) W.A.S.P. but that's all about it. I hope that their new studio album will be a bit more exciting than this.
