REVIEW: Warbringer - Waking Into Nightmares Century Media Records, 2009
8.5/10
Warbringer - Waking Into Nightmares - cover art Judging by the crop of young bands pillaging the ears of American Metal youth, Thrash Metal is apparently in vogue again. Like Wisconsin's Lazarus A.D., Warbringer pay homage to the old schoolers such as Testament and Exodus with crafty and riff heavy Thrash. In fact, Gary Holt of Exodus produces. No wonder the guitars here are so thick and buoyant.

Still, the guy that steals the show is vocalist John Kevill. He sounds like he grew up trying to emulate Slayer or Exodus and screams with an intensity I've only heard before on Slayer's Reign in Blood, rife with emotion and violent aggression. His vocals fit right on top of the massive riffing and comes across as a pulverizing bark.

Waking Into Nightmares is a full on sonic assault. Opening with a raging "Jackal," Warbringer certainly bring the fight to the pit, twisting and raging through ten slickly produced songs. The best tune is "Prey for Death," which breaks down into some  Metallica-styled soft stuff, in between a collection of chunky riffs, a memorable tune. Definitely give this baby a spin.
