REVIEW: Warmen - Accept The Fact Spinefarm Records, 2005
6.5/10
Warmen - Accept The Fact - cover art "If the public doesn't like one's work, one has to accept the fact gracefully". Those words of wisdom open up the third full-length album from Warmen, the project spearheaded by Children Of Bodom keyboard wizard Janne Wirman. The title track immediately sets the technical standard very high as Mr. Wirman lets his fingers fly across the keyboard, accomplishing an incredibly fast and energetic melody that will make everyone realize why he has been chosen as Alexi Laiho's counterpart in what might just be the technically most skilled extreme metal band in the world. While listening to this album you will most likely come to recognize a few familiar voices. Guesting on vocals there are Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius) on two tracks, Marko Waara (TunnelVision) on two tracks and Jonna Kosonen (Nylon Beat, The Johnson) on one song. While Janne Wirman has reached a high degree of technical perfection mastering his instrument there is one more thing that proves necessary if you wish to explore music on your own. I do not question his presence in Children Of Bodom for even a second but this vehicle of self-assertion has not been filled with the proper mix of fuels. It lacks quite a bit in song writing which is partly made up for by Wirman with his keyboard wizardry but "Accept The Fact" tends to be one of those albums which are likely to be more appreciated by musicians looking for perfection than the average music lover wanting memorable songs.

Well, then, are there no memorable songs on this disc? To be honest, not really, although the energetic driving melody of the title track and the intense vocal performance from Mrs. Kosonen in "They All Blame Me" do make serious attempts at scarring my mind and leave at least some kind of trace behind. The highlight for me is however the peculiar but most interesting cover of Rockwell's monster hit "Somebody's Watching Me" where Alexi Laiho actually takes on the lead vocals. This, together with Wirman's impressive instrumental show-offs, help make this a decent album nonetheless despite the lack of song writing.
