Quite
interesting solo project from the keyboardist extraordinaire Janne Warman. If
you know Children Of Bodom, then here's the guy beyind the keys. With the
help of Sami Virtanen on guitars and Mirka Rantanen on drums. Some guest
musicians added their notes with bass and guitars. Besides two songs, this is
an instrumental album on which Kimberly Goss wrote and sings the lyrics. I've
always liked instrumental works for two reasons. First of all, it concentrates
on the part I enjoy the most: the music. Second, I'm sure the singer's voice
won't get on my nerves by being too high pitch or sceaming all the time. What
this project made me discover is a great composer and an outstanding keyboard
player. I would compare him to Steve Vai. Right from the magnificent intro,
you know you're in for a good musical ride. "The Evil That Warmen Do" is a
fast, very fast, intricate number played by an octopus (too many notes for a
single person). Progressive, vivid and full of great musical vibrations. The
title track is another good piece involving fast keys, sounding like
harpsichord, mixing various styles such as prog, jazz, metal and classical.
The end result is awesome! The classical influence is very obvious on "Piano
Intro To" on which Mr. Warmen is playing grand piano. This composition goes
from slow to fast and is quite complex thus showing his level of musical
virtuosity. And a word on the two songs being some kind of rocking numbers
reminiscent to The Pretenders or Pat Benatar. And yes, the vocals are good and
didn't get on my nerves!
