REVIEW: Warrior - The Code Of Life Nuclear Blast, 2001
8.5/10
Warrior - The Code Of Life - cover art Warrior has been back in the business for some years now and this is their third album so far. The band was originally formed way back in 1985 in California and was to be the American answer to Def Leppard. They released one album called "Fighting For The Earth" in 1985 but then the band split up since their bosses at MTV started their metal phase-out. In 1993 they reformed with a different line-up but inbetween guitarist Joe Floyd had been producing albums for other musicians, among them the two solo albums from Bruce Dickinson. I haven´t heard their album from 1985 but I can tell you that they are now much heavier and several times better than Def Leppard even though they are not a lousy band either. This album is full of classic heavy/speed metal of the best possible quality and there are not really much to say about it. The guitar work is almost perfect with everything from beautiful emotional melodies to breath-taking heavy riffing. It is hard to pick out the best songs on the album but to me it´s "Kill The Machine", "We Are One" and "Retribution". Needless to mention Rob Rock is handling the vocals with amazing skill and if every band had a vocalist like him they wouldn´t need any instruments at all (perhaps a small exaggeration but he is really great). A couple of new releases this year has disappointed me but this album lives up to the great reputation of the participating musicians. Produced by Warren Croyle this is, in my humble opinion, the best album so far anno 2001.
