REVIEW: Warrior Soul - Drugs, God And The New Republic Escapi Music, 2006
7/10
Warrior Soul - Drugs, God And The New Republic - cover art Deriving energy and political influences from the punk movement, New York's Warrior Soul released several critically acclaimed albums in the 90s, all of which are now being reissued by the Swedish label Escapi Music. "Drugs, God And The New Republic" followed upon the band's debut "Last Decade Dead Century" and many consider it the first step in a downward spiral that was not to end. However, there are a couple of songs here that are comparable to the best they ever did, all of which are characterized by fiery guitar work of John Ricco and the personal singing style of frontman Kory Clarke whose past as a street poet has definitely put its mark on Warrior Soul as well. This is a band that toured with bands such as Metallica, Danzig and Queensrÿche back in the days and this is good. The reissue series from Escapi Music are proof of the fact that these guys know the history of hard rock and heavy metal very well. Warrior Soul is a product of the 90s but their music lives on today. This remaster version of the original release comes with three bonus live tracks that don't add anything for me but at least it's something extra. Good quality rock music.
