REVIEW: Watch Them Die - Watch Them Die Century Media, 2004
7.5/10
Watch Them Die - Watch Them Die - cover art Watch Them Die is an Oakland, California, based band who have been around since early 2000 but now they have been given a real break as Century Media have offered to release their eponymous debut album. I was suspicious at first when I heard about the band as the latest bunch of metalcore signings of Century Media have not impressed me very much. Watch Them Die was luckily a fresh breath of air though as this is much more than simple metalcore. There is a little bit of everything here - intense Bay Area thrash riffs, grindcore, a little bit of punk and crust and finally some hardcore touches. The songs themselves are unusually long for this type of music but in this case it is not a disadvantage. Watch Them Die are lucky enough to be able to compose music dynamic and varied enough to be enjoyable all the way through. The whole album is very intense, fast and furious which suits their band name. If you don't like one single band in the metalcore subgenre then you will probably find it hard to embrace them but otherwise Watch Them Die will certainly be of interest to you. No stand-out hit songs but nonetheless a good, solid debut album from a promising band.
