REVIEW: Watchmaker - Kill.Crush.Destroy Wonderdrug Records, 2002
5/10
Watchmaker - Kill.Crush.Destroy - cover art Watchmaker is an American five-piece that apparently found inspiration in the sounds from Kreator, Voivod and Vio-lence. There are probably a lot of people who wish that those good old days were not gone but Watchmaker do not sound anywhere near any of these bands. Instead they sound like a mix of hardcore rage, grindcore intensity and the aggressive riffing of black and death metal. In short this is a very violent album that should appeal to fans of many different genres as long as you like it violent, fast and chaotic. Unfortunately this orgy in chaos and destruction turns out to be rather flat and boring and both the vocals and the mix leaves a lot more to wish for. Terrorizer apparently gave this album a 9 out of 10 rating but I have by now learned not to trust magazines to lead me right. If I go out and buy an album I want it to be something original and also full of great music. This is actually a little original but it does not sound that good. Abusing your instruments does not make that much of an impression on me and luckily the metal scene has a lot more to offer than what Watchmaker share with us on this disc.
