REVIEW: Wayne - Metal Church Nuclear Blast, 2001
8.5/10
Wayne - Metal Church - cover art David Wayne, one of the founders of Metal Church (the band, not this album...), is back again with a new self-titled band consisting of his old bandmate Craig Wells, Jimi Bell, Mark Franco and B.J. Zampa. With the name of the album being "Metal Church" you might guess that Nuclear Blast decided to sell Wayne albums pretty much based on the success of the old band but to tell you the truth these veterans have actually created a compact disc [half]full of music well worth buying. This is what I call true heavy metal with no weird samples, no keyboards or no other strange things destroying the very essence of what this genre is all about. Some might find it hard to accept the somewhat unusual voice of Mr. Wayne himself but it fits the music very nicely in my opinion. He sounds kind of like a mix of Axl Rose, Ozzy Osbourne and Rob Halford. I suppose you don't have any problems guessing the lyrical theme of this album by reading the song titles and, you are right, it is a spooky one even though you can't help smiling while listening to the horror comedy "DSD" (Die Satan Die). It's good to see the old Metal Church fellows back in the game and hopefully this is not the last we will hear from their new band.
