REVIEW: Weinhold - Below The Line Armageddon Music, 2006
6.5/10
Weinhold - Below The Line - cover art Jutta Weinhold released several albums with Zed Yago and Velvet Viper in the late 80s and early 90s and became one of the few women in heavy metal who made it at the time. Although she never broke through for real with any of her bands she has earned herself somewhat of a cult status in Germany. A couple of years ago she released a debut album with her new band Weinhold and performed at the huge open air festival in Wacken where many actually knew about her from the past. Now she returns with "Below The Line", an album produced by her old Velvet Viper bandmate Lars Ratz (now with Metalium) at the Tornado studio in Hamburg. It opens up with a low-end epic entitled "Storyteller", a song whose position in the tracklist is highly appropriate as it is by far the strongest piece in my humble opinion. This is what her voice is most suited for, as soon as she starts hitting higher notes it doesn't quite appeal to my sensitive ears. Even though the musicians themselves are capable of their task the rest of the album appear as rather anonymous with a slight exception for "Fire No Water". Jutta Weinhold has at least made a decent comeback which I appreciate.
