"The Fortune Teller's Gaze" from the American heavy metal band Wind Wraith was originally released by the band themselves in 2001, the year after their formation, but now the German label Iron Glory Records re-releases it to a larger audience with help from big brother Massacre Records. Wind Wraith's three guitars make this album sound very heavy and intense indeed. They have clearly been influenced by classic 80s heavy metal á la Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Especially Iron Maiden's characteristic guitar work and Bruce Dickinson's vocal style can be heard in "Dragon Riders". The heavier side of the band leans towards a more modern American style of power / heavy metal which can be related to Helstar, Jag Panzer and Jacob's Dream. The sound quality sometimes remind you of the fact that the album was once financed by the band members but it is very professionally produced. As the material presented here was written early in the band's career it shows a lot of promise for what is yet to come and I hope Wind Wraith will come up with a new album some time soon. They have undergone a row of line-up changes since then which probably has resulted in slow progress but the one who waits... The album cover looks a little cheap but other than that Wind Wraith is recommended for fans of the past. Favorite pick: "Shameless Desires", a very intense piece and "Ancient Tales" with its efficient female / male dual vocals. If Iron Maiden, Jag Panzer, Iced Earth and Metal Church make you go wild then check out these Americans.
