This is actually a special edition including the
"Of Entity and Mind" mini cd [Editor's note: the special edition was
released by The End Records, the band's American label]. This label brings
out some of the most interesting dark wonders like Green Carnation, Virgin
Black, Arcturus to name a few. This release is no exception to their
standards. Winds brings in a high quality choice of classical instruments into
its own blend of progressive gothic orientation. The core of this band is
built of vocals, guitars, keys and drums on which the symphonic addition of
violin, viola, cello and bass makes up to create a pretty enjoyable sonic
encounter. The vocals are at times low spoken and otherwise, clean medium
high. The mood is definitely gothic and the compositions are progressive and
complexed involving changes of shifts in their tempo. In many occasions, grand
string arrangements are used as an overture. Like all of their brothers in
"The End 's Brotherhood", their work is blessed by a top notch production.
The standard trio of guitar, bass, drums are well punctuated and efficient.
The lead guitar player has a little Steve Vai accomplishment to show you. The
keys are a bit too discrete to my taste and besides some piano notes are
mostly used for background scenery. Kind of humble from the guy who's also
the producer. The classical influence is obvious if you listen to the three
instrumentals compositions, especially on "Predominance" being actually an
interpretation of Rachmaninov's piano concerto no. 2, on which Mr. Winter
demonstrates his keyboardist agility. Other highlights are tracks number three
"Of Divine Nature" and five "Passion's Quest". One word on the mini cd
showing some earlier work being less symphonic and on "Inception
Perspective" they make use of some techno elements and vox
effects.
