REVIEW: Witchery - Dead, Hot And Ready Necropolis Records, 1999
8.5/10
Witchery - Dead, Hot And Ready - cover art Have you ever wondered what the result would be if you mix Dark Funeral with At The Gates? Well, that is one way very suited way to describe the Witchery sound. Some very well-known guys are responsible for the devilish unhollow hymns that make up "Dead, Hot And Ready" such as Sharlee D'Angelo, probaly best known for his work with King Diamond, and Patrik Jensen, nowadays composing crushing and deadly rhythms together with the Björler brothers in The Haunted. Except for Sharlee and Jensen there are also some darker forces in the band who can be heard through the black metal vocals and highly distorted guitars while Sharlee and Jensen represents the rock'n roll and thrash metal sound. All this together makes Witchery a very interesting cross-over act with the potential of reaching not only "true" black metal fans but also people with the possibility to accept a broader spectrum of music. Even though there are a lot of At The Gates influences in the guitar riffs Witchery is not quite playing in the same league as the legends from Gothenburg. Invite the demons to the dance and don´t listen to the scary sounds of death alone. Some final words of advice: beware what´s lurking in the shadows of the night in case you don´t want to risk ending up being "Dead, Hot And Buried".
