REVIEW: Withering - Gospel Of Madness Warhorse Records, 2004
7.5/10
Withering - Gospel Of Madness - cover art Withering is a young Finnish band that started out in the year 1999, rehearsing some covers from the most well-known native metal bands such as Amorphis, Sentenced and Paradise Lost. Soon guitarist Mika Korhonen started writing his own songs for the band and now, after two demos, they have finished their debut album for Warhorse Records, licensed to Firebox. Firebox have quickly grown to become one of the most important sub-major metal labels in Europe and they pick up one underground talent after the other. Withering is in my opinion the most promising act that they have found so far. "Gospel Of Madness" is a very fine melodic death metal album. The production is crystal clear and everything about the recording breathes of professionalism. Withering doesn't offer us anything that we haven't heard before but they do what they do very well. If they continue to practice hard they could go very far if they only find a stronger individual sound. They are already highly enjoyable which shows a good deal of promise for the future. If you are a big fan of the early work from Amorphis, Sentenced and Dark Tranquillity then check this album out right away.
