The underground metal scene in Germany is very strong today,
especially when it comes to black metal, and Wolfswinter is a fine example of
this prospering scene. I know practically nothing about this band but this
doesn't stop me from writing this review as you may notice. Nice melodies,
good production and powerful vocals is something that black metal fans aren't
exactly spoiled with these days but this can all be found on this album. One
thing that may speak against them however is that their lyrics are written
entirely in their native tongue which is of course German. Another thing is
that the tracks are a little bit too similar and when I had finished listening
to this album I could not remember one single song. There is a lot of
mid-paced groovy black metal on this album as well and this is something I am
not too fond of. I want my black metal to be either built on exquisite
melodies or high speed, preferably both. Wolfswinter doesn't quite live up to
the expectations I have on a top notch black metal release but they still gave
me a fairly enjoyable listening experience. Stand-out tracks: "Der Sinn Von
Sax Und Ger", "Blutrunen".
