At first sight I thought this is some ‘heroic metal’ material, everything from album title to cover picture pointed at it, but rather not. It is an experiment out of the boundaries of Metal. Thus, it was very hard to label it for the review. I stated it as atmospheric which might be most accurate, or least wrong. Ywolf is the band of Gabriel Wolf and at spot nr. 2 Mr. Nagy Andras from Sear Bliss. Music here is composed entirely on keyboards and has nothing to do with standard Metal type of composing. Only thing linking this with Metal are blackish vocals. Maybe some early Mortiis materials would be comparable with this. Lots of choirs, classical instruments, or only pure keyboards are basic ingredients in the music soup of Ywolf. It is all directed at creating light eerie atmospheres (after ‘Plague Angel’ of Marduk everything is ‘light eerie’ at max). Gabriel didn’t want to follow the usual path and cast us into some bizarre or sick places. Some parts even reminded me of Cradle of Filth instrumentals, which is great. The album even has some lively moments contained. I don’t know if it’s ok, but Alice in Wonderland with mythical creatures instead of original ones from the book comes to my mind as a place where you could hear this music. I liked most of the album until some degree, except for the last song that is some bastardized, stillborn experiment with a techno (cover states it’s industrial, but I disagree) remix of the ‘Well of the Diamond Sun’ song from within the album.
