REVIEW: Zyklon - World Ov Worms Candlelight Records, 2001
8/10
Zyklon - World Ov Worms - cover art Samoth is a man with a lot of things going on. Except for his main band Emperor and his label Nocturnal Art we now see the result of the side project Zyklon. Together with Trym, also of Emperor, and members of Myrkskog and Limbonic art he has composed 8 tracks dedicated to death and destruction. This is nothing like the side project Peccatum of Ihsahn which was a mix of gloomy gothic and black metal. It is more of a very intense and extremely fast death metal album with a black metal tinge. There are also some occational spoken words from the American fetish queen Persephone as well as a brief vocal appearance from Trickster G of Ulver. The very few atmospheric pieces of the album are nothing to be happy about and there are absolutely no beautiful melodies to be found here either. What is appealing with this album is instead the immense power and wall-crushing intensity of every single song. Unfortunately it gets a bit monotonous and there is no track that clearly stands out from the rest of them although there are some nice harsh riffing here and there. It might be interesting to know that the lyrics were written by the still imprisoned Bård "Faust" Eithun.
