REVIEW: Crowhead - Love Letter (demo) Neodawn Productions, 2000
5.5/10
Crowhead - Love Letter (demo) - cover art Crowhead was born in Norway anno 1999 in the ashes of Shadow Dancers. The band consists of Øyvind Trinborg and Jo-Inge Slangsvold. Many of you may know Øyvind from before under the name Rym in the Norwegian black metal band Ragnarök. Crowhead´s music is far from furious black metal though. Their influences include bands like Sisters Of Mercy, Tiamat and Paradise Lost. It´s hard to label Crowhead as a metal band and I think gothic doom rock would be more appropriate. Their music is slow and gloomy with wailing vocals from both band members. The atmosphere delivered by these Norwegians is sad and melancholic with lyrics about lost love and suicide thoughts in the true gothic spirit. This demo could very likely appeal to a lot of metal fans as well as those who don´t like the heavy stuff that much. The best tracks on the demo are "Eternity" and "Lost Angel" who both start off with beautiful emotional tunes but they both seem to die a little as they approach the middle sections. Perhaps Crowhead is in need of one or two additional band members but "Love Letter" is still a rather nice demo with an above average production. It deserves your attention and will come to stir the deepest waters of your soul.
