REVIEW: Destruction - Sentence Of Death (EP) Steamhammer Records, 1984
9.5/10
Destruction - Sentence Of Death (EP) - cover art Destruction is one of the oldest metal bands still in existence and together with Sodom and Kreator they became one of the three leading thrash metal bands in Europe. Mixing the speed and heavy riffs of metal with the aggression and raw intensity of punk they found a winning concept. After having formed the band in 1983 it didn't take long until they were offered a contract with Steamhammer Records, one of the leading metal / rock labels of Europe. This EP was their very first official release and it shows a band full of energy and the hunger that comes from being a new band wanting to show the world who they are and what they are capable of. This hunger was apparent on the first releases from bands like Metallica, Slayer and Blind Guardian as well but unfortunately most bands don't manage to keep the rebellious spirit of their youths alive. This is the case with Destruction as well even though they still are a great band. Despite the fact that the lyrics are evidence enough of the mental immaturity of a young band eager to shock their surroundings this album includes some of the best songs Destruction have ever come up with such as "Total Desaster" and "Mad Butcher". Destruction had come to stay.
